we made it to london!

After an incredible 11 day trip to Croatia and Greece (pictures and blogs to come this week!), we have arrived in London!

We are fully moved in to our new home in the Canary Wharf district of London. Canary Wharf is more of a business district than a tourist area. It was built up in the late 90’s, so it actually feels a lot like Chicago due to the modern architecture. Our studio is 322 square feet. No, you didn’t read that wrong…322 square feet. It is actually more spacious than you’d expect, but it is an adjustment from our cushy 800 square feet we left back in Chicago! A few pros – we have a separate sleeping and living area, a kitchen table, washer/dryer, and a balcony. A few cons – the kitchen is teeny tiny, we are running low on storage space, and worst of all… no A/C. Don’t worry, we quickly ordered a fan for next day delivery. Here are a few pictures!

We arrived on Friday, and headed straight to the pub! We ate fish and chips, drank a few pints, listened to locals use terms like “for f***s sake” and “bloody hell”, watched some cricket on the telly, and knew we had made it! On Saturday, we walked around our new neighborhood to get our bearings. We found the grocery store, spotted a few restaurants/pubs we want to try, and walked past the KPMG office, where Steve will be heading on Tuesday. The office is only about a 15 minute walk from our apartment.

Today, we headed downtown for some tourist fun! We are about 6 miles east of the main downtown area, so we hopped on the tube (London’s public transportation) and went out exploring. We spent 3 days in London in 2012, so we’ve already hit all of the high points (Tower of London, Westminster Abbey tour, etc.), so we just walked around and revisited a few places that we loved during our last trip. We can’t wait to spend more time wandering and getting to know this city in our short time here.

Lastly, happy Father’s Day to our incredible Dads and Grandpas, and all the other dads out there!
