oktoberfest

This post will be short, just like our visit to Munich. We had been to Munich during Oktoberfest previously, so we didn’t have any sightseeing we wanted to do – we were just there for the party! Last time we went to Oktoberfest, we said that if we ever came back, we would 1) Invest in the traditional costumes; 2) Go with friends; and 3) Reserve a table inside a tent for the day. We did none of these things, because 1) They are so expensive!; 2) We are bad at planning ahead; and 3) This isn’t necessary without #2….But we still had a fantastic time! The great thing about Oktoberfest is that everyone is your friend, so it is impossible to have a bad time.

We started the day with a walk around the city to get our blood flowing, and then we made our way to the Oktoberfest grounds! We went to three tents – Hofbrauhaus, Augustiner, and Lowenbrau. We had one beer at each and went home after that; this may sound like a quick evening, but remember, these are 33 oz beers and avg 7-8% abv! At the first tent, we met an Australian couple that was concluding three months of traveling Europe before heading back home. At Augustiner, we sat with some Munich locals. Lastly, we met a couple of guys from Milan as well as a group of rowdy fellas from Holland. We woke up the next morning for an early flight with a slight (ok, a terrible) hangover, but it was worth it!
