mykonos, greece

Our final stop in Greece was Mykonos. Mykonos is a gorgeous island with so many beaches, and an upscale, party atmosphere. There are people clubbing on the beach at all hours of the day. I am not lying when I say that I saw an 80+ year old man dancing on a beach bar in a g-string at 4 pm. Needless to say, the people watching was great!! There were also some quieter beaches that were more… family friendly.

We stayed at a hotel just outside of the town of Mykonos with a great view over the Aegean Sea and a nice pool, so we spent some time lounging there each morning. There are beaches on all corners of the island, so we rented an ATV for 2 days to visit as many of the beaches as we wanted during the day, and then came back to town to watch the sunset and go to dinner. Steve loved driving the ATV. Each day when I got in the shower he would sneak out and go joy riding because he could go faster and take harder turns without me on the back. I think we may have to buy one of these some day!

A few of the beaches we went to were Panormos, Agios Sostis, Psarou, Paradise, Ornos, and Kalifatis. Our favorite was probably Ornos – it was a good mix of party and relaxing. I didn’t do a great job taking pictures in Mykonos, probably because of all the sand… and I always had a drink in my hand!

We saw some amazing sunsets all three nights in Mykonos. The first night we went down to the Windmill/Little Venice area, and it was gorgeous, but also very crowded. The following nights, we opened a bottle of wine on our balcony at the hotel and watched it from there – it was much more peaceful and just as beautiful!

Mykonos was the perfect end to our trip. It was fun, romantic, beautiful, and relaxing. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for some fun in the sun! Great vibe, great food, couldn’t ask for more!
